Ellesmere Port

Passed this unusual building on the outskirts of Chester ...

I gave Liam (13) a lesson on how to steer the boat, plus how to stop it and the general rules of the road and that was it - he steered it virtually all the way to Ellesmere Port!   I was amazed how quick he picked it up. I didn't have to correct the steering once, - perhaps it's playing computer games?! Very competent helmsman!

Through a lovely stone railway bridge, complete with television floating underneath it!

Passed a long line of some daggy lookin' boats ..

New breed of short legged cow ...

Lots of gongoozlers as we dropped down into the basin ... there was a problem with the side basin, so a lock-keeper saw us down, so we didn't flood the bottom lock!

Once tied up we went and checked out the Manchester Ship Canal ...

We went out and explored the rest of the basin-what a fascinating place!  We were only going to stay for 1 night, but we will stay longer so we can have a good look around.  Elaine is just enchanted with the place !

Later on we were joined by yet another nephew, Philip, who is in the RAF based in Waddington; he was visiting his girlfiend in Liverpool, so he popped over to see us. We decided to jump off a wall.........

Caxton moored in the basin.

The pub of the day......The Holiday Inn - it's the only one in the basin!

Looking forward to more exploring tomorrow ...
