We left the mountain this morning in glorious sunshine, so much for the forecast rain ...
The first 11ks were all down hill with the average fuel consumption was 3.2 l/100km or 85.6 MPG!!
We carried on heading in a southerly direction. Our destination today was Castellane, for no particular reason other than that it was about a two hour drive and the Aires book said the Aire was nice.
Once again a lovely drive, if you like driving of course ...
Some of the mountain roads were quite narrow....
Love the old painted adverts ...
I'm not even sure where this was - it may have been Sisteron ...
The only problem with mountain passes is that you hope that you don't meet something large like a.......
.....Bloody great bus! It was a tight squeeze and made El squirm! It does help with me being on the wrong side so I can get really close to the edge, plus if it does hit us Elaine kops it!
This was a sad sight.....
A scrapyard full of Citroens, including DS21s......nooooooooo
We parked up in the aire, which cost 6.50 Euros a night. The machine only took cash and I didn't have any so we drove in through the open exit and parked up!
We then went for a walk around the very lovely town ...
The town is dominated by a 'kin great rock with a chapel sitting on the top of it.
You can see the chapel on top of the rock...I hope!
The town was fantastic and as the title says we hit the jackpot again! There were a few tourists around but it was no way crowded ...
A couple of arty shots ...
There is that bloody rock again ...
And again ...
Elaine came up with the crazy suggestion that we walk to the top of it!!
So away we went ...
It was well worth the effort. It is 184m high and the walk to it is just over 1 km - uphill!! It did get very steep and rough in some places, so it took about 45 mins to reach the top.
You can see the motorhomes parked directly below ...
What a view we had ...
The Selfie!
We went inside the lovely little chapel at the top of the rock, to cool down and thank the Lord for not giving us heart attacks on the way up ...
The chapel dates from the late 12th century!
Going down was a lot easier on the lungs but a lot harder on the dodgy knees ...
It only took about 20 mins to get down.
It would have been rude not to have a beer once we reached the bottom ...
By now the aire was pretty full. That's us 3rd from the left and above us is that 'kin great rock or 'roc' as our French friends say ...
Once again France delivers the goods! It is such a lovely country and the people are lovely, contrary to popular belief.
Here we be ...
VIVA LA FRANCE!
Looks like you are having a great time over there - lovely places to stay!!.. Great scenery photos too - we are enjoying sharing your travel adventures.

Absolutely loving it, it helps that France is so motorhome friendly.
