How to Hold Up A Train and Other Adventures!

Yesterday (Tuesday) we decided to catch the train to Aberdovey, which is a little village just south of our site.

Firstly we had a swim in our private pool!!

This is the building it is housed in ...

It's a lovely, heated pool and as there is no one on the site staying in the guest house so we have it to ourselves!

The main guest house is over the road from the campsite and the pool ...

There is our van ... Nigel No Friends!  All our neighbours left - I think the weather drove them away!  The building on the right is the potting shed ...

The railway station is about a 15 minute walk down a country lane.  There used to be an army camp here, which closed in 1966 but was reopened in 1972 to house 3,000 Ugandan Asians booted out by Idi Amin. Most of the buildings have long since gone and the road around the camp is now the motorcycle track.

So the station is now in the middle of nowhere ... when you want the train to stop you have to hail it like a cab!

It stopped and away we went ...

Nice little place, Aberdovey.  We had a quick look around before heading back, the weather was deteriorating rapidly!

Today (Wednesday) we left north Wales and headed down to a little site called Longhouse, which is located in Pembrokeshire a few miles south of Fishguard.  The drive was pretty good with a few hair raising moments on some of the country lanes, but it's all good fun.

The new site is once again a Caravan Club CL site like the last.  We like these sites - they are very small with only 5 pitches and have the basic 240v hookup, water and a place to dump the nasties. Some have showers etc, but with a shower onboard we don't really need them.  To us the main requirements are 240, water and a waste dump.  These smaller sites are pretty cheap - the last one and this one are £12.00 a night, which is steep by narrowboat standards but free places for motorhomes in the UK are few and far between.  It is a different story once you cross the channel, where they are much more welcoming to motorhomes.

So this our view through the front screen today ...

Very nice spot ...

We went for a walk to the closest village (Abercastle), which was just a short walk across the fields in front of the van.

We passed some of the friendly locals ...

The views were super ...

Bombo looking down on Abercastle ...

We walked down to the little bay ...

Loved this house ...

Then we walked back to base ...

This is in the field opposite the site, which just happens to house a 5000 year old burial chamber!

I think we are going to enjoy a few days here.  The weather was lovely today and as an added bonus we have a good internet and phone signal, something that was severely lacking at the last stop!

What a Difference a Few Miles Make.

I have always wanted to visit Tenby as I have always read good reports about it.

We parked up about a 15 minute walk from the centre but as soon as we started walking we had this feeling of this place wasnt going to be our cup of tea.

This soon changed once we arrived at the centre,  wow what a view ...

It looked fantastic ...

Our impressions did a 180 degree turn once we started walking around the place.  It seemed we had arrived in the middle of the UK Chav convention of 2014 which was being held in Tenby.

Chav is a UK term for What Sydneysiders call Westies

This fella was most handsome  - and large ...

It was quite a nice place to walk around, but the Bank holiday crowds did my head in, and I normally like crowds ...

Perhaps it's a nice place to visit in the winter ...

It did have a very nice beach but it was not good weather for it, as it was raining quite heavily ...

Another nice local ...

Yay, play time!

The most interesting part of the day was when they launched the lifeboat for a demo ...

Dragging it back up the slipway ...

Loved this Lambretta ...

I didn't realised til I cropped this photo but I managed to capture one of the local lads eyeing up the girls!

We had planned to stay the night in the carpark, but this place registered very high on the 'you will not be alive in the morning scale'!

We checked our Britstops book and headed for a pub in the village of Pontargothi.
We arrived at the The Cothi Bridge pub and were met by one of the locals who told us to park around the back next to the river.

What a great spot!  The very helpful staff got us hooked up to 240 power and told us where to obtain water etc ...

Bugger the water!  After the Tenby experience I needed a beer, and what a beer it was - they had Doombar on tap.

There was a hen night going on in the form of a fancy dress 'C' party, so there were candles, criminals, coaches, cruella de villes, crayons, cats - they had all gone to great effort.  The girls were making great use of the karaoke machine!

Because of the hen night the restaurant was shut but they they said they could do takeaway, so we had fish and chips back in the van for £5.00 each!

After the fish and chips we went back into the pub as it was such a good atmosphere.  The girls headed off to a night club about 23.00 so we stayed and were chatting with the oh so friendly locals for a bit longer.

Once the girls had gone this chap was hogging the karaoke ... he was from the Rhondda Valley and boy could he sing!

So our day ended on a high note!

We have such a good 'mooring' here that we will stay another day!
