A Sort of Homecoming

What a sight to wake up to, 5 trains passed before we left the site at about 11.00am.

I also shot a video from our parking spot - hopefully it will work!  You need to turn the sound up to get the full effect!

What a sound to wake up to, better than any alarm clock!1

Our first stop of the day was Robin Hoods Bay. a delightful little village just south of Whitby ...

We parked up at the top of the hill and walked down a very steep hill to to the waterfront ...

Once again it was a cracker of a day, the pubs and ice cream parlours were doing a brisk trade ...

There were so many little lanes and alleys to explore ...

We still managed to overtake some people back going up the hill ...

We drove northwards up the coast passing through Whitby and Saltburn before stopping at Marske By The Sea.  I lived here between 1963 and 1969 and have very fond memories of  living here as a kid.

We lived in the house on the right.  My sister Jackie was born here, she is the only northerner of the family, the rest were born in Luton.

Right opposite the house is a path of about 100 metres that leads to......

This ...

Last time I stood here I was 12 years old!

We walked down the dunes to the beach ... actually Bombo leapt the last ten foot!

Bombo was in his absolute element and went nuts ...

We walked back to the van via St Germain's churchyard ...

Buried in the churchyard is Capt Cooks father ...

Tonight we are moored up just outside of Redcar overlooking the sea.  I spoke to one of the other moorers, he said it is a recognised motorhome overnight parking spot ...

Just got back from a nice long evening walk along the beach to Marske, with Cliff House looking superb in the setting sun ... it is now used for retirement living...

  1. I post videos to YouTube - same login details if you have a Google account. Once uploaded, (less than 15 minutes duration until they trust you), use the share option to copy the HTML code that is shown for use to embed in another website. When you compose the Blogger post that you want to place the video in, change the editor tab from English to HTML and paste the copied code in the location you want the video. Change the editor tab back to English and the video will be there. Finally tidy up the positioning and publish. Watch out for the size you choose to copy, or it will overlap your Blogger page.
