Feeling High!

We left our lakeside paradise on yet another lovely morning, this morning, although the weather forecast is for a change, bringing with it a bit of rain.

We emptied the tank and filled with water before leaving ...

We carried on driving down the Route Napoleon, which links Cannes with Grenoble and, as the name suggests, is the route Napoleon took when returning from exile in Elba in 1815.

It is a superb drive through lovely little villages...

And stunning scenery ...

We stopped at a supermarket to top up on the wine and milk stocks ... but it was shut, as it was lunch time!! However, in the carpark there were 24 hour 7 days a week washing machines....such a shame we had no dirty clothes!

We ended up stopping at a lovely little free Aire in the village of Saint-Jean-Saint Nicolas ...

We had a walk alongside the river into the village.

I do like a good war memorial ...

Elaine was mightily impressed with the free edible garden beds.
We helped ourselves to a few tomatoes ...

I was mightily impressed that a little known Frenchman built the Ariane Rocket in his.....

....Shed!

Back to the very nice Aire ...
Elaine using our newly purchased baguette as a pointing stick!

I still can't get over how France has it so together re motorhome parking places and facilities ...

However after having a yummy lunch onboard the bus I checked out the map and noticed that 20 minutes away was a ski resort, so we decided to go and check it out.  We do have our bikes with us but they are for flat use only ... we are far to fat and unfit to attempt any inclines!

So off we went up the winding road ...

Once again breathtaking scenery ...

We arrived at Oscieres Merlette and parked up in one of the many empty carparks ...

We went for a walk around the village, which is pretty much deserted apart from some builders and maintenance men.

The name on the front of this vehicle ... 'ORANGE ROVER!'

Looks like the rain is getting closer ...

We are thinking maybe we will take the motorhome to a ski resort next winter, I do love snow skiing.  El doesn't ski but she said she would be happy enough with the dogs while I go!

The chairs look a bit sad with no snow around ...

We have decided to stay here for the night ... it could get a bit chilly, we are at 1828 metres or 6000 ft!

Why is this shop up here?

The wind is getting up and we are rocking around a bit, it could be a fun night!
