Summit Reached

We were considering giving up on the Kennet and Avon this morning as Elaine has been suffering from a bad back for about a week.  We decided to have a good breakfast, take some drugs (well, El to take some drugs) and go for a walk and see how it went.  I took her up to see the friendly horse, he lived up to all expectations.  El gave him a little massage, which he appreciated!

We went for a walk to the village of Wilton ...

It was a lovely view when we got to the top ...

Just stunning scenery ...

The crops are looking very ripe for harvesting ...

Having a play with the zoom , not sure whether this was Holland or Norfolk!

Then we have a few artistic shots ...

The boys just loved it because the temps have dropped down to about 22 degrees ...

This was my pick of the village - not because it was the best house, it was because it had the best car in the driveway, 1971 Land Rover Ute!

The walk did the trick ...we got back to the boat, untied and headed off towards Bristol once more.

This chap is a professional photographer, he took lots of photos of Bombo posing on a lock beam ...

We finally reached the summit!  We have been going uphill since Reading, now it's downhill all the way ...

I had to save this poor stranded fish ...

This paddle rack had been snapped very recently ...

It was brand new gear, I don't know how it could have snapped ...

We have stopped at Wootten Rivers, because I got a good satellite signal to watch the footie tonight, we have no internet signal though so we are going to go to the local to see if we can get a signal there and publish this riveting extract of our life afloat.

Ha - we made it to the pub ... a very nice pub it is too (it is the Royal Oak at Wootton Rivers).  Our wifi isn't working in this area at all but the pub has free wifi AND they are showing the football AND very dog friendly!  Looks like we might as well stay and have dinner as well then ... it would be rude not to!

Here is Elaine hard at work in her new office, publishing tonight's blog!

  1. That pub was our favourite place when we were on the K&A, do they still sell eggs at the lock?

  2. So glad you didn't turn back, the best is yet to come on the K&A, another good pub is the Golden Swan at Wilcot, lovely little thatched village just off the canal just after Pewsey. Enjoy the Caen Hill Flight at Devizes and say hello to Andy the lock keeper for us if hes working the day you go down!
